The struggling Golden Lions hosts Sharks on Friday afternoon at Ellispark with the Golden Lions desperate for a win to qualify for the semi-finals on the 31st of August 2019. The Sharks is currently third on the log with 18 log point while the Golden Lions is on 11 points second from last on the log.

The Sharks is no strangers to the try line with 28 tries scored, however with only four tries being scored by the forwards. Winger Caleb Dingaan scored six tries this season scoring the second-most in the competition so far. The Sharks comes off a 73-28 win against the Leopards and did not make one change to their starting line-up, with JJ vd Mescht at lock the only change on the bench.

The Golden Lions forwards seems to be able to compete while their backline struggles to make full use of the quality ball they receive. The Golden Lions scored 22 tries after the first six games with the struggling backline only scoring 6 tries with Dian Scoonees (#8) and Ruan Vermaak (Lock) being the top try scorers with 3 tries each.

The Golden Lions made several changes to the team that lost against the Cheetahs last weekend (32-59). Kennedy Mpeku moves to the bench with Shaun Baxter coming in at fullback. Tatendaishe Mujawo is new at #14 while the rest of the backline stays the same. Upfront captain, Dian Schoones is replaced by Sibusiso Sangweni who moves from #7 to #8 after an injury. Emmanuel Tshituka slots in at #7 while Darrien-Lane Landsberg replaces Adrian Alberts at lock and also take over the captaincy from Schoones.
