SARU u/21 – Week 8 Review

Round 8 of the SARU u/21 Championship did not have any surprises when looking at the results of the games but the Lions and Leopards surprised all by their performances on the day. The Bulls remained at the top of the log with 32 points but the fight for the fourth semi-final spot is heating up as the Sharks and Lions are separated by just one log point with bonus points becoming very important

 

Western Province 35-13 Sharks

DHL Western Province U21 scored four tries on their way to an impressive 35-13 victory against Cell C Sharks U21 at DHL Newlands on Friday after leading 13-8 at half-time. It was a polished performance against a competitive Cell C Sharks U21 outfit, as the home side showed promising signs on both attack and defence with the playoffs approaching.

Western Province u/21: Tries: Erasmus, Davids, Ordeson, Kriel. Conversions: Coetzer (3). Penalties: Coetzer (3).

Sharks u/21: Tries: Dingaan, Richardson. Penalty: Chamberlain

 

Free State Cheetahs 52-40 Leopards

Six of the Cheetahs was scored by their dangerous backline outscoring the Leopards eight tries by six. The Cheetahs lead 38-26 at halftime but could not run away with the game in the second half as expected. Cohen Jasper added two tries to his already impressive eleven tries during the season while Conan le Fleur has now scored eight tries tis season and moved to number two of the top try scorers.

Leopards u/21: Swiegers, Dreyer, vd Berg, Jordaan, Botha, Khoza. Conversions: vd Berg (5)

 

Blue Bulls 41-33 Golden Lions

The Vodacom Blue Bulls U21 stuck up their hands to claim a hard-fought 41-33 win (half-time 17-26) against the Xerox Golden Lions U21 in their SA Rugby U21 Championship match at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions that struggled the whole season played their best rugby of the season but this time met their match up front depriving them of attacking-ball which they showed for the first time this season they know what to do with it
