World Rugby announced the Pools and fixtures for the 13th u/20 World Championship to be hosted in Italy from 28 June to 18 July 2020. The world’s 12 best teams will compete across five match days in northern Italy, bidding to succeed France as champions with the winners to be crowned in Parma on 18 July.
The teams taking part in the premier age-grade tournament have been divided into three pools of four with the medallists from 2019 the top seeds in France, runners-up Australia and bronze medallists South Africa.
South Africa was included in Pool C together with England, Fiji and hosts Italy. England will be the firm favourite to proceed to the play-offs with South Africa unable to beat England for the since 2014 in this competition. South Africa has won the bronze medal three times in a row, 2017,2018 and 2019.
South Africa has only won the Championship once 2012 at home with players like Steven Kitshoff, Paul Willemse, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Raymond Rule, Jan Serfontein, Handré Pollard and William Small-Smith in its ranks. South Africa won silver in 2014 and won bronze eight times.
South Africa will play in the first match of the tournament against hosts Italy on Sunday 28 June at the Payanini Center, Verona. Their second game will be against Fiji on 03 July again at the Payanini Center with their last match which should decide the winner of Pool C on 08 July at the Stadio Sergio Zafanella, Viadana against England.
The semi-finals will be played 13 July 2020 with the finals on 18 July 2020.
